What is 40 Days of Prayer?

40 Days of Prayer is a six-week discipleship experience designed to help participants discover more about how to communicate with God, listen to God, pray through the scriptures, and practice prayer in individual, group, and corporate contexts.

Why 40 Days of Prayer?

Simply put, 40 Days of Prayer allows participants to more effectively pursue the goal of all of our Venture Groups: obeying Jesus together.

This holistic discipleship experience simultaneously raises the temperature of participants' individual prayer rhythms, on each group's prayer rhythms, and on the church's overall prayer rhythms.

Obeying

To love God is to obey God.

40 Days of Prayer is not simply about learning more about prayer- it's about learning how to pray in every situation. Spending time with God daily, learning how to talk to and listen to him, and grappling with a challenging yet rewarding life of prayer is what 40 Days of Prayer is all about.

Jesus

To love God is to know and follow Jesus.

40 Days of Prayer is Jesus-centered. It expounds on different methods of prayer we learn from him, how to further engage with him and the Holy Spirit, and how to obey him. Finishing a task list is easy; following a person is not. Jesus is at the center of the 40 Days of Prayer in every way.

Together

To love God is to love one another.

Just as God designed people to live life in community, 40 Days of Prayer is only designed to be done in community. We must fulfill God's instruction to love one another by learning how to pray together, to pray with one another, and to pray for one another consistently.

Personal Rhythms

40 Days of Prayer strengthens your personal rhythms.

40 Days of Prayer specifically challenges participants to grow in several personal rhythms of prayer, including daily engagement with God through the scriptures, through meditation, through prayer, and through journaling.

Group Rhythms

40 Days of Prayer strengthens your group's rhythms.

40 Days of Prayer also encourages growth in group rhythms, including praying for one another, praying with one another, and praying out loud in a safe and comfortable environment.

Church Rhythms

40 Days of Prayer strengthens our church rhythms.

Finally, participation in 40 Days of Prayer grows the spiritual rhythms of our church, including areas such as corporate calls for prayer over issues in our community, fasting as a group of like-minded disciples, and prayers of blessing, calling, and sending.
